Pamper Yourself To Relieve Stress

Life is so busy and we have so many responsibilities that we forget to take care of ourselves. Self care is an important part of stress management. Taking time to care for yourself regularly can make you a better caretaker for others. Pampering yourself doesn’t have to be expensive or time consuming.  A massage, soak in the tub or other forms of pampering revitalize you inside and out.

Here are some tips on how to pamper yourself.

Take a bubble bath. Set the mood by lighting some scented candles, turn on some music and soak up some nourishing bath oils or exfoliate your skin with a scented body scrub. Giving your body some special treatment is a natural way to relieve stress. You could also give yourself a facial with a sugar scrub or give yourself a manicure and pedicure. You may even want to treat yourself to a new hairstyle.

When you get out of the tub, use a pumice stone to slough off the dead skin and then moisturize with a rich body lotion. Rich, scented body lotions will make your skin feel smoother, especially if you used a body scrub to exfoliate your skin in the tub before putting them on.

Exercise is a healthy way to manage stress. You’ll feel and look better in no time and you’ll enjoy better sleep which will result in a more positive day ahead.

Another great tip for relieving stress is to have a massage. Massages are the best way to reduce stress. They target the exact area of the body that is stressed. Helping to soothe and relax the stressed muscles.  Massages also help to detoxify the body. The toxins that are found in tight muscles will be released when these areas are massaged slowly.  Drink plenty of water after a massage to help flush the toxins from your body.

These are just some ways to help  reduce the stress in your life. Pampering yourself is important for stress relief, maintaining a positive outlook and staying healthy. It will help you to feel balanced from the inside out.

Skin Care Tips For The Bride

Statistics show that June is the most popular month for weddings.  For the entire wedding day the focus of attention will be on one person, the bride. With all eyes on the bride, she will want to look radiant and glowing for the big day.

The first step to glowing skin is a proper cleansing routine. Wash your face with a mild cleanser in the morning, followed by a good moisturizing lotion.  Always remember to remove your make up before going to bed and use an exfoliating sugar scrub at least twice a week.

It’s very important to follow a proper and balanced diet to achieve good skin care. Avoid junk foods and processed foods as much as possible. Drink plenty of water to flush out all the bad impurities in your system and to help keep the elasticity in your skin. Also, eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Having a good sleep each night is essential for a glowing skin. If you compromise on your sleep you will end up with a tired look on your face and dark circles around your eyes.

Exercising on a regular basis before your wedding will help you to keep in shape and improve blood circulation which in turn brings a glow to your skin.

Remember to buy skin care products that are suited to your skin type – dry, oily or  normal. A wrong product might end up doing more damage then good.

How To Have Silky Smooth Kissable Lips

Many of us are using sugar and salt body scrubs to exfoliate our skin for softness and moisture. Most often we forget all about our lips. Shouldn’t they enjoy the same benefits as the rest of our body parts do?  By exfoliating the lips this will help the skin hold more moisture and prevent chapping. Your lips will be silky smooth and kissable and your lipstick will last longer.

Be sure to only use sugar scrubs on the lips and not salt scrubs. Save the salt body scrubs for the body.  Salt can be irritating to the sensitive lip skin. Remove any lipstick, gloss or lip balm first. Standing over a sink rub some of the lip scrub gently into your lips.  Be gentle! You can use a soft toothbrush or an infant toothbrush. Just don’t brush too hard. Making sure you lightly scrub all lip surfaces and the corners.  Rinse off and follow with a nice lip butter.  A lip butter is a more intense moisturizer to nourish and soften lips.  It will make them feel kind of oily, but in a good way. Some people are sensitive to cocoa butter and will notice small whiteheads around the lips. If this happens to you switch to lip butter that contains shea butter, hemp butter or others.

Some benefits of exfoliated lips are:

1. Visible wrinkles around the mouth are less noticeable.

2. Lipstick stays on lips longer.

3. Soft lips are better for kissing.

On another note, the constant use of lip-moisturizing products are a big part of many people’s lives. Some dermatologists have even debated as to whether lip-balm addiction is a valid medical condition.  There are even online support groups for those who think they have a lip-product problem. Of course you can use lip moisturizing products and not have a problem.

Chapped lips can be caused by cold, sunny or windy weather. Even personal habits like breathing through your mouth or licking your lips too much can also cause chapped lips. If you are out in the sun it’s very important to wear a lip balm with a sunscreen in it.  Lips can burn.

To cure those chapped, dry lips remember to use a sugar exfoliating lip scrub. Topped off with a luscious lip butter and then pucker up for silky smooth kissable lips.

Maintaining Healthy Skin

Skin is the largest organ of our body. It acts as an insulator that provides a certain degree of temperature regulation.

Your skin tells a lot about you. Due to so many of us leading a hectic lifestyle these days we tend to neglect our health. Neglecting your health will have a direct affect on your skin. Our skin is exposed to many harmful environmental elements, like sun rays. Too much sun will dehydrate the body. This in turn affects the health of our cells in the skin. The main reason our skin may look bad is due to our poor eating habits.  With everyone being so busy we tend to neglect a proper diet.

Have no worries.  There are lots of ways to maintain healthy skin.  Here are just a few. First off, eating healthy food. Cut down on the amount of junk food you eat each day. You can still have these foods, just in moderation, since oily foods have been known to cause pimples. Eat more veggies and fruit. Vegetables are flooded with vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that are essential for nourishing your skin. Fruits have a high content of water which is vital to keeping the body hydrated.

Secondly, exercising and drinking plenty of water through out the day will help you to have a better looking natural skin due to the additional flow of blood to your skin and by the water keeping your skin better hydrated.

Thirdly and most importantly, make sure you practice a regular cleansing routine. Cleanse, exfoliate, tone and moisturize with a body lotion every day. Start by determining what type of skin you have.

With oily skin a shiny appearance and large pores are usually visible. It’s important not to over scrub, because this can lead to a pimple outbreak and use tepid water. Hot water can strip away needed moisture. Always use oil-free lotions.

Dry skin is tight or rough feeling. Wash with warm water and don’t use strong scrubs or any alcohol-based skin products.

With combination skin the forehead, nose and chin are usually oily while the cheeks may be normal or dry.

Normal skin will show a healthy glow and there is no redness or large pores visible. To maintain this skin type use skin care products that maintain the natural water balance of the skin.

Proper skin care is very important. Determine your skin type and then get in the daily habit of caring for your skin. If you continue with a daily routine your skin will have a more youthful appearance even after your youthful years are gone.

Skin Care After Tanning

Soon it will be summer and a lot of us will be headed for the beach or a lounge chair beside the pool to soak up the sun. Tanning can make you look and feel good. It’s believed that the vitamin D found in UV rays maintains good health, with a reasonable exposure of course. Whether you tan indoors or outdoors, your skin will loose some of its moisture.  How you care for

Soaking up the sun.

your skin after tanning is just as important as what you do before you tan.  By keeping your skin in good condition while tanning will not only prolong your tan, but it will also help to prevent damage to your skin.

It’s best to clean your skin before thoroughly with an exfoliant body scrub to get rid of dead skin cells in order to optimize your tan. Exfoliating your skin with a body scrub before using a self-tanning product will help you achieve a more even application and your less likely to experience streaks.

It’s important to drink plenty of water before and after spending time in the sun or a tanning bed. Tanning can dehydrate the skin. Just like a body lotion moisturizes, water rehydrates your skin and makes it healthier and younger looking.

Allow your tan to set for a minimum of 4 hours before you take a shower or use any body lotion. If you take a shower immediately after tanning you may end up with a lighter, uneven tan.  When you do take a shower, use a sugar body scrub instead of a salt body scrub. The sugar body scrub moisturizes your skin better while removing any dry skin which will keep your skin from drying out or peeling.  Don’t rub the body scrub on any areas that are sunburned. Use a milder body wash for these areas.

Then you’re ready for some deep moisturizing body lotion. Cover your body liberally with body lotion after taking a shower. The moisturizing body lotion keeps your skin healthy and extends the life of your tan. The more moisture in your skin, the longer your tan will last, so be sure to moisturize every day. Allow at least 24 hours before going tanning again.

Parabens & Are They That Bad?

Parabens are a common ingredient in cosmetics and lately have involved a lot of discussion. Parabens are the most widely used preservative in personal care products. They prevent fungus and bacteria from growing in your body lotions and makeup. For instance, they can be found in shampoos, moisturizers and shaving gels to list a few.

Here’s what they may be doing to our bodies. Parabens can mimic the hormone estrogen and in doing so have been found in breast cancer tumours.

The reason parabens are used so widely is that they are cheap and effective. Did you know that parabens replaced formaldehyde many decades ago as a preservative? And now the push is on to find a replacement for parabens.  There is a growing interest now to buy body lotions and body butters that are labelled “paraben free”. Many companies of beauty products are changing the way they formulate their products to meet this demand. Some have experimented with using as preservatives, oregano, thyme, rosemary, grapefruit seed extract or lavender oil in various combinations. Always working with other formulations and combinations with natural preservative properties.

Until cosmetic and beauty product companies can find non paraben preservatives for their products, I suggest reading the list of ingredients on any body lotion, body butter, lip butter or body scrub you purchase.

Body Butter vs. Body Lotion

When dry skin hits, knowing whether to use a soothing body lotion or a thicker body butter can make the difference between quenching and saturating.

Dry skin occurs when the skin cells lose moisture. This can be caused by a variety of ways. Such as dry heat in our homes during the winter months or repeated removal of the skin’s oily lipid layer brought on by frequent washing.

Body lotions contain basically two ingredients, oil and water.  They go on smoothly, absorb quickly and leave no greasy residue.

On the other hand, body butters generally contain three basic ingredients. Shea butter, a vegetable oil and coconut oil or butter.  Body butter is offered in a whipped, waxless or even a bar type.  A whipped butter usually contains beeswax, which makes it harder to absorb, but longer lasting.  The waxless and bar type are more easily absorbed into the skin.  Body butters are thicker than body lotions , will leave a film on the skin and can be used on the entire body.

The pros of using a body butter are clear.  Most body butters use shea butter.  This is an all natural cream containing vitamin A making body butters ideal for skin damaged by dryness, wind or chapping. Body butters are made by taking seeds and nuts and grinding them to extract the oils. Warning to people with nut allergies. You should check the ingredients carefully before using. Body butters provide longer lasting, more intense moisture and  healing to the skin.  But, on the other hand if added moisture is all that is required then a body lotion would suffice.

Why Use Body Lotion

Living in a northern climate where we get between five and six months of winter can be hard on a person’s skin.  The constant dry, cold air can lead to chapped, scaly dehydrated skin.

Applying body lotion to the skin on a regular basis seals moisture into the skin to prevent drying. I suggest applying to various parts of the body after taking a bath. Body lotions applied after a bath or shower can help to seal moisture deep in the skin to keep it hydrated and supple.

Even if your skin type is oily or normal, you could still have some rough areas on your body like your elbows or knees. These areas can benefit from body lotion applied just before bed. Massage some lotion into your feet and then slip on a pair of socks before getting into bed. By keeping your feet covered with the socks, this will help the body lotion to penetrate deeper into your skin.

Who doesn’t love the feel of creamy lotion on their tired body? There are as many different lotion types as there are moisturizing needs. There are a wide range of lotion scents and textures to choose from.

There are dozens of uses for body lotion. Apply some to dry legs after shaving. Apply some to rough hands or feet.  You could keep a bottle of body lotion in the kitchen for your hands after washing the dishes. Put some in the spare bedroom for when guests come over. Have a bottle of your favorite scented body lotion on the nightstand to feel smooth and smell sweet at bedtime.  There are even body lotions on the market now that can add some shimmer and glimmer to your skin tone. Perfect for an evening out on the town.

As woman get older their skin becomes drier. Applying  body lotion on a regular basis can help to prevent the formation of fine lines and premature wrinkles.

As in most cases today if it contains, “natural ingredients” then it’s better for you. This holds true for body lotions as well.  A body lotion that contains natural ingredients is more beneficial to your skin as they provide long-lasting results.

The skin is a living, breathing organ. Keep it moisturized with body lotion so it looks radiant and refreshed.

How to Use a Body Scrub

A body scrub exfoliates, cleanses and rejuvenates your skin. It also stimulates circulation.  The two most common body scrubs are sugar and salt. Sugar is the less abrasive of the two.

A couple of common ingredients in scrubs are coffee and cocoa which help to break up cellulite and at the same time exfoliate your skin.  Some scrubs use vitamins like vitamins E and C to help nourish the skin. All natural body scrubs are made without using chemicals.

To begin your skin needs to be moist. Squeeze the body scrub onto a luffa or any similar type of sponge. Start at your feet and massage the scrub in a circular motion up the legs and the torso. Always working towards the heart. Continue at your fingertips and massage up the arm.  Keep in mind to always use gentle strokes. Too much pressure can cause irritation to the skin.

You can also add a large dollop of body scrub to the bathtub and soak. This works well with a fragranced scrub.

No need to wash with soap after you scrub. Just rinse and towel dry.

An exfoliating body scrub should always be applied with a scoop and not your hands. Applying the scrub to your skin with your fingers may cause bacteria to build up in the scrub causing irritation to your skin. Don’t use body scrubs near cuts or spots that are sensitive on  your skin. Be sure not to scrub after sun-bathing as you can irritate sun-sensitive skin.

Using a body scrub no more than once or twice a week will get rid of the dead layers of skin on your body and in turn allow the moisturizer in the scrub to be better absorbed into your skin.   This will help prevent ingrown hairs and breakouts.

Get scrubbing!
